Car parking for competitors

Parking during Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week is very limited. There will be extensive on-road parking restrictions in Kingswear for the whole week

Darthaven Marina Parking during Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week

Car parking is available at Darthaven Marina on a first come basis. The payment system operates on a Pay-and-Display on entry system combined with Automatic Number Plate Recognition, with one hour free to allow visits to the Chandlery or Post Office, but please note that penalty charges will be incurred for infringements, and there is no facility to pay retrospectively.

It is possible to register with RingGo Cashless Parking. This enables cashless parking by mobile telephone, text, or via an application (free download). RingGo also allows extension of the time paid for – the system sends a text giving a ten minute warning of the finish of time paid for and the extension can then be made on your phone. Details of RingGo are to be found at www.myringgo.co.uk

Please note that overnight stays in motorhomes or caravans are not permitted in Darthaven Marina car park, but see our Where to stay page for possible pitches in Kingswear in 2024.

Junior dinghy launching and parking

If you are delivering a boat to Kingswear, it is essential you let us know by Monday 19th August (email info@dartmouthsailingweek.com or phone the Sailing Office 01803 752496) so that the Beachmaster and his crew can arrange a time to meet you, to assist with off loading your boat at Darthaven Marina and moving it to an allocated space on the RDYC pontoon.  Note that boats must be delivered to Darthaven Marina – do not attempt to off load in Priory Street (i.e. outside RDYC) as you will cause an obstruction. Also note that delivery before 17:00 will not be possible due to yacht hoist movements in the Marina

For SatNav users, Darthaven Marina postcode is TQ6 0SG.  To get to Kingswear by road, follow the B3205 from its junction at Hillhead with the A379. On arrival in the village, follow signs to Darthaven Marina. In the marina car park you will be directed to an off loading area. Please note that there is free access to the car park for 1 hour for launching but a penalty charge will be incurred if you overstay (see car parking information above).

Free of charge trailer parking will be available up to Monday evening. No trailer parking is available beyond this time due to the limited parking available for cars during the main Regatta.

Dinghy launching and parking at Dittisham SC

If you plan to arrive in Dittisham with your boat prior to Saturday 24th it is ESSENTIAL you email the Boat Park Officer boatpark@dittishamsc.org.uk in advance, and you will be advised where to park your boat.

For SatNav users the club postcode is TQ6 0JH, however reading the following directions is strongly recommended, as alternative routes to Dittisham are unsuitable when towing a trailer:

From the A38 Expressway follow the signs to Totnes. At Totnes take the A381 towards Kingsbridge. Shortly after passing through Halwell, at the BP petrol station turn left onto the A3122 to Dartmouth.

After a little over three miles the A3122 takes a sharp bend to the right at the Sportsman’s Arms public house. Leave it at this point by bearing left (almost straight on) signposted Dittisham. After another three miles you enter the village at a ‘T’ junction. Ahead you will see the Red Lion pub, bear left here and immediately right into Riverside Road. Approx 200 yards down Riverside Road you will see on the right a sign to ‘The Ham’ car park. Go down into the car park and straight through it down the ramp to the foreshore. Bear left along the foreshore and drive on until you see the Clubhouse.

Leave your boat and trolley here and park your car and trailer as directed by the Beachmaster, who will be on duty from 08:00 (TBC) on Saturday 24th August to welcome you and sign you in. If you arrive prior to this, please temporarily park in The Ham car park.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET TO DITTISHAM BY ANY OTHER ROAD ROUTE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TOWING A BOAT!

The Ham car park is quite small but has reasonable charges. Trailers can be parked on the Ham itself free of charge but only in designated spots. If the car park is full then use Riverside Road, which is free, but 200 yards away.

Cars and trailers are only allowed on the foreshore to unload dinghies and trolleys.

Ferries water taxis and taxis

There are two car ferries (both also taking foot passengers) and one passenger ferry over the River Dart in Dartmouth. No booking, pay on board, and saver tickets for multiple crossings are available. The service times are extended during the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. You can get up-to-date information regarding times and fares at the links below:

The Higher Ferry Note that the Higher Ferry links Dartmouth to the B379 for Noss Marina and Hillhead, not directly to Kingswear village.  There is an approx 15 minute walk on unlit paths to either Noss Marina, or to Darthaven Marina and Kingswear.
