ROBERT “BOBBY” PEARCE — EXPERIENCED RACING CREW AVAILABLE

Torquay-based sailor seeking keelboat racing opportunities during Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week and beyond.

I have approximately 20 years of professional experience aboard sailing yachts and superyachts, with around 35,000 nautical miles completed, including five Atlantic crossings. Boats I have worked aboard include Adela, Shamrock V, Lionheart, Altair, Favonius, Ijkra 2 and P K Boo 2.

My racing experience includes a season as bowman aboard the modified X-99 Xcellent; two consecutive years racing Shamrock V at the Cannes and St Tropez regattas; Antigua Race Week; and the Great Western Yacht Club winter series aboard Al Fresco.

Bow is my specialist and preferred position, but I am also comfortable working at mast, pit, mainsheet or headsail trim, and can contribute wherever an experienced pair of hands is needed. I have experience with both asymmetric bowsprit systems and conventional symmetrical spinnakers, including end-for-end and dip-pole gybes.

I retired from professional yachting over a decade ago and am now returning to active sailing. I am physically fit, comfortable working forward and race competitively several times each week on Virtual Regatta Inshore, maintaining an active understanding of starts, tactics, racing rules, shifts, laylines and close-quarters fleet positioning.

Qualifications: STCW 95; RYA Powerboat Level 2. Previous ENG1 now expired.

Location: Torquay
Availability: Dartmouth Regatta and other South Devon racing opportunities

Delivery crew available for return trip from Dartmouth to East – viz: Weymouth, Poole or the Solent. Please contact me via the regatta office as explained above.

Crew available for Royal Dart Regatta 2026.

Recently qualified RYA Day Skipper and a late starter to sailing, looking to build experience racing with a friendly and patient crew.

Experience includes:

  • Laser 16
  • Delphia 24
  • RYA Day Skipper practical on a Bavaria 39
  • Competent rail ballast (and enthusiastic crew!) on a S&S Swan 48 during the Falmouth Classics
  • Elan 380
  • Sunfast 3200

I am novice but very keen to improve and hungry for experience.

Based in West Sussex and happy to travel for the right opportunity.

Staying local for Dartmouth Week 26th-30th August whilst my boys race a J35.

If your crew could use an extra pair of hands who is eager to learn and works well as part of a team, I’d love to hear from you.
